Behavior Support Specialist
Job Summary :
The Behavior Support Specialist assists students whose emotional / social needs interfere with their ability to obtain maximum benefit from the educational program.
Acts as liaison between parents / guardians, school, and public and private agencies responsible for student care and services.
This position is of limited duration (approximately 5 years) and state funded.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to) :
- Provides consultation and training to teachers and administrators regarding students with behavioral and / or adjustment problems.
- Provides consultation to parents / guardians regarding family and community adjustment.
- Serves as liaison between the school and outside social agencies when appropriate.
- Makes home visits for family consultation and evaluation.
- Makes regular school visits according to established schedules.
- Helps teachers and principals regarding students with adjustment needs.
- Assists in the development of student behavior management plans and functional behavior assessments utilizing evidence-based practices.
- Collects data regarding behavioral intervention plans and services provided to students with disabilities.
- Provides direct services to students that have been determined eligible as impacted by an emergency proclamation concerning drinking water within the city of Flint.
- Maintains appropriate confidential records on each student referred.
- Consults, counsels, and collaborates with parents, school personnel, students, and appropriate community agencies regarding behavioral and educational concerns developed in a multi-tiered system of support.
- Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties :
- May travel to and from district sites, constituent school districts, and student homes as assigned.
- Represents the district on various community services agencies and professional organizations as appropriate to the assigned area.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications : Education :
Education :
Full approval as school social worker through the Michigan Department of Education, Approval as a School Counselor, or Board-Certified Behavior Analysist (BCBA).
Preferred considerations will be given to BCBAs.
Experience :
None required; successful experience supporting childrens social emotional development preferred.
