Scaled Composites is seeking a Facilities Assistant to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. As Facilities Assistant, this individual will support entry-level ground support equipment (GSE) maintenance, facilities maintenance, and construction assignments essential to Scaled Composites operations. Responsibilities will include contributing to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and construction tasks across manufacturing areas, flight test hangars, offices, warehouses, storage and processing areas. The work environment may involve indoor and outdoor settings, elevated locations, and exposure to inclement weather conditions.

We are a rapid prototyping and manufacturing facility, designing, building, and testing proof-of-concept and prototype vehicles. Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to :
- Using a variety of basic hand tools and shop equipment in a safe manner.
- Assisting ground support equipment mechanics with maintenance and repairs on company vehicles, heavy and light duty equipment, and various ground support equipment used in aviation.
- Learning and applying different methods of building maintenance and construction to assist in the upkeep of company grounds and facilities.
- Removing and replacing air filters for building systems.
- Emptying and removing trash waste from facility buildings.
- Operating company vehicles and equipment, as required, within company policy.
- Cleaning and organizing work areas, vehicles, and equipment.
- Identifying safety issues and taking appropriate corrective action.
- Performing escorting duties for employees and guests, driving off-premises - including outside of Mojave to deliver or pick up employees and / or products.
- Stocking supply areas with items such as drinking water or printer paper, as needed.
- Performing non-routine tasks, as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities :
Strong problem-solving skills.Mechanical background.Good verbal and written communication skills.Team-player attitude with the ability to work with many different people and manager working relationships.Ability to work autonomously, as well as, in a team environment, using effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills in-person / over radio, and providing great customer service.Ability to follow general and detailed verbal and written instructions.Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole number, fractions, decimals, and convert between them.Valid California driver’s license.Knowledge of common tools, materials, equipment and methods use in fleet maintenance.Ability to pass and maintain “pass” status on an OSHA-approved Pulmonary Fitness Test (PFT).Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.Education and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalentEssential Job Functions :
Occasional lifting 50+ lbs.Must have sufficient agility to work in the interior of an aircraft structure. Will need to bend, stoop, squat, and / or kneel to occasionally work in cramped, tiring, and uncomfortable positions.Ability to work overhead for prolonged periods of time including lifting up to 10-15 pounds.Standing 95% of the day, sometimes 8.5 – 12 hours per day.Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for an assigned task.Work with composite materials such as epoxy resin systems, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and foam / core products. Will also work closely with chemicals, such as acetone and alcohol.May be exposed to dirt, oil, fuel, grease, and hydraulic fluids.Able to adapt to altered schedules.Occasional pushing / pulling of heavy tools and tables (75-100 + lbs., with assistance).Manual dexterity to handle small parts, and tools and to manipulate composite material to various shapes using pressure.Repetitive hand and arm motions including, but not limited to, trimming, sanding, and / or grinding of materials.Occasional sitting computer work.Vision at close distances and ability to adjust focus.Ability to operate a forklift and / or other heavy machinery including occasional driving of company-owned vehicles.Work on varied work surfaces / environments, including but not limited to working in a busy shop environment, cold room, or in / on aircraft structures including raised platforms including but not limited to ladders, scaffolding, and stairs.Work may be performed inside or outside of buildings. May be exposed to changing weather conditions.Must be able to read and understand SDS.
