At our state-of-the-art facility in St. George, Utah, we manufacture high-purity semiconductor materials used in some of the world's most demanding environments, including satellites, provide high-definition medical imaging and infrared vision.

We are seeking a Process Engineer with a strong mechanical engineering background to join our manufacturing team. This role will focus on the design, optimization, and support of semiconductor wafer manufacturing processes, high-purity metals refining, and the development and improvement of custom-built production equipment. The ideal candidate will combine mechanical design expertise with a passion for solving complex engineering challenges in a high-tech manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Process Development & Optimization

  • Develop, refine, and implement manufacturing processes for semiconductor wafer production, from crystal growth to final wafer preparation.
  • Optimize process equipment performance through mechanical redesign, component upgrades, and control system improvements.
  • Design and validate tooling, fixtures, and automation systems to enhance throughput, precision, and repeatability.
  • Machine Building & Equipment Engineering

  • Lead design, modification, and integration projects for custom manufacturing equipment.
  • Collaborate with vendors and in-house teams to build or retrofit machines for high-precision manufacturing.
  • Apply mechanical engineering principles to improve durability, ease of maintenance, and operator safety.
  • High-Purity Metals Refining Support

  • Develop and improve mechanical systems for high-purity metals refining processes.
  • Support material handling, casting, and forming operations with engineered solutions.
  • Work closely with process engineers to ensure mechanical systems meet cleanliness and contamination control requirements.
  • Process Monitoring & Control

  • Track and analyze mechanical performance and process parameters (pressure, force, temperature, vibration, etc.).
  • Implement statistical process control and equipment reliability monitoring systems.
  • Project Execution

  • Lead projects from concept through installation and commissioning.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate mechanical systems with chemical, thermal, and electrical process requirements.
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and vendor relationships.
  • Quality & Safety

  • Maintain product quality standards through inspections, measurements, and documented procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards, with a proactive risk-reduction approach.
  • Conduct mechanical root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Technical Leadership

  • Mentor technicians and junior engineers in mechanical troubleshooting, machine design, and process control.
  • Provide mechanical expertise for cross-functional problem-solving teams.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline)
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in semiconductor manufacturing, precision machining, high-purity metals refining, or other high-tech process industries
  • Proven success in process equipment optimization and mechanical system reliability
  • Proficiency in CAD design and mechanical modeling software
  • Strong understanding of statistical process control and equipment performance analysis
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and follow strict contamination control protocols
  • Capability to lift and handle up to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with wafer manufacturing, crystal growth, or CMP (Chemical Mechanical Planarization)
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification
  • Experience in precision motion control, vacuum systems, or vibration control
  • Project management experience in capital equipment upgrades or machine building
  • Familiarity with automation and integration of mechanical systems in manufacturing
  • Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Cleanroom environment requiring proper gowning (cleanroom suit, hood, booties)
  • Use of appropriate PPE when working with specialized materials
  • Regular standing, reaching, and fine mechanical assembly work
  • Occasional requirement to stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb ladders
  • May occasionally require respirator use
