Power Delivery Regional Business Development Director – Northeast
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Power Delivery Regional Business Development Director – Northeast. The preferred locations are New York, NY; Boston, MA; Portland, ME; Newark, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; and Hartford, CT, with consideration for any US Northeast location in proximity to a WSP office. The role is a key leadership position within WSP USA’s Energy team, ranked #2 on ENR’s 2025 engineering list for the Power sector (and #5 overall). The Power Delivery Regional Business Development Director will lead the development of new business in the Northeast U.S. power market to expand WSP's Power Delivery practice, primarily focused on transmission and distribution, overhead lines, and substations projects, while cross‑selling WSP’s other services to related Business Lines. The role reports directly to the U.S. Power & Energy Development Director and coordinates within other Business Units and Service Lines to promote visibility and enhance cross‑selling.
Impact
- Drive business growth in the energy sector with focus on power delivery, transmission, distribution, substations, digital adoption, grid resiliency, grid modernization, SCADA / Comms and related trends.
- Raise the market profile of the business and establish / maintain strategic partnering relationships.
- Partner with other WSP Market Segment Leaders in strategy formation and business development.
- Gather market intelligence and develop strategies to meet shifting market opportunities.
- Actively generate new business and new clients, both external and internal through proactive collaboration in line with business objectives and sales targets.
- Participate and speak at key conferences and panel discussions.
- Define new market entry requirements and win propositions, developing a clear route map to successful pre‑qualification and bid submissions and communicating clearly to pursuit and proposal teams.
- Generate a sufficient sales backlog and prospect bank to support business and service line goals, ensuring all opportunities are recorded and managed within the appropriate systems.
- Establish strong, enduring high‑level relationships with clients, partners, supply chain, and stakeholders to ensure strategy delivery and position for future opportunities, measured by client satisfaction and feedback and the health of the prospect pipeline.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, proactively seeking and advancing opportunities to broaden service offering to existing clients and initiate relationships with new clients, including leading bid and tender activity.
- Promote, represent, and enhance company reputation internally and externally with clients, staying well‑informed of industry developments across the region.
- Maintain contact with decision makers and key business interests in client organizations.
- Support the Energy Business Line Executive in planning for growing and managing major accounts and engaging team members in executing strategy.
- Obtain independent client feedback through regular visits, analyze and incorporate it into improvement plans, and summarize findings for the SVP / VP BD / Leadership teams.
- Participate in the organic growth of the team via new hires.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field15+ years of relevant post‑education experience in the Power industry and engineering fieldExtensive knowledge of infrastructure policy and designExperience with infrastructure planning, design, including active involvement in rehabilitation, new design, and construction projectsHighly effective interpersonal and communication skills, capable of expressing ideas to engineering and non‑engineering audiencesDemonstrated high level of self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environmentWorks independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadershipOccasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirementsProven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug / alcohol and harassment policiesAbility to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweekBenefits

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations) : $175,400 - $250,000. WSP reserves the right to offer additional benefits and compensation, as appropriate, in accordance with internal equity and local geography.
