Job Description :
Hopewell Community Church
Lead Pastor position
Hopewell Community Church (HCC), a member of the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church, is seeking a new full-time pastor due to the planned retirement of our current pastor in August 4.
We have approximately active members with an annual budget of approximately $, . HCC is debt-free. The church, gym, and onsite parsonage and church property are debt free and owned by the congregation.
The church property includes a pioneer cemetery, care of which is provided by the independent Hopewell Cemetery Association by agreement.
Our location is just north of the tiny town of Hopewell, midway between McMinnville and Salem, Oregon in a rural setting.
Attendance has been stable over time, with new members coming as some move away. Teens and children, however, have been rare for several years.
We have very active women’s, men’s, fellowship, prayer, and worship groups. There is one service on Sunday morning following Sunday School / Bible Study.
Mission support is done primarily through donations, but teams have been sent to work at an orphanage in Honduras as well.
Trustee work has been done by various members and needs a consistent leader at this time.
Visitors and new members say they are attracted to our church by the feeling of love, good humor and acceptance, and the conservative, solidly biblical tone.
We expect that our new pastor would demonstrate these qualities.
- HCC believes that the Bible is the inspired word of God; that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three manifestations of God united;
- that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived without sin, and died as a substitute for sinful mankind; that Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, and will return;
that salvation is a gift from God received through faith and not merit; and that the Holy Spirit lives within everyone who is saved.
At a minimum, our new pastor will be expected to :
- Preach and teach from the Bible
- Administer with the Council & Pastor-Parish Committee and the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church
- Use technology to attract and nurture new Christians
- Administer communion, baptism, and conduct weddings and funerals
- Perform pastoral counseling and visitation
- Embody the high character described in 1st and 2nd Timothy and Titus
- Become ordained with the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church
- Will have completed a M.Div or M.A. or complete the Pacific Evangelical School of Ministry (PESM)
