Job Description

The Department of Sterile and Materials Processing is a state-of-the-art instrument processing and sterilizing facility. The Sterile Processing Department assists in the decontamination, High Level Disinfection (HLD), assembling, sterilization, and distribution of clean and sterile surgical instruments, trays, and pans using advanced capital equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, and surgical case carts.
• Consult with the Processing Manager to select methods of packaging and sterilization.
• Examine surgical instrumentation for cleanliness, proper assembly, and function.
• Operate steam sterilizers according to established procedures and maintain proper time, pressure, and temperature levels.
• Perform maintenance on sterilizers, ensuring cleanliness and functionality.
• Prepare biological cultures and review test packs to ensure sterility.
• Decontaminate surgical instruments and handle infectious waste following established protocols.
• Document stock received and assist in maintaining par levels of inventory.
• Deliver surgical supplies to patient care areas when warranted.
• Maintain critical documentation such as biologicals and sterilizer load sheets for quality assurance.
