SUMMARY This is an on-call position, typically needed for one-week intervals. However, the temporary assignment may be for as much as six weeks at a time. This position performs administrative, secretarial and other support duties in the absence of judicial assistants, administrative assistants, and other related positions within the Twentieth Judicial Circuit. No benefits apply to this position. This is significantly responsible work involving a variety of complex administrative and secretarial duties, primarily for the purpose of managing the office of a Circuit Court or County Court judge in the absence of the judge's judicial assistant. In addition to extensive legal secretarial or paralegal skills, a person assigned to this position is required to have a working knowledge of trial courts' rules and procedures, including civil, criminal, traffic and small claims. Daily contacts include judges, offices of the Clerk of Court, Administrative Office of the Courts, state attorney, public defender, private attorneys, staff attorneys, state and local law enforcement agencies, the news media, and the general public. The purpose of these contacts is to receive, convey, and explain detailed information regarding Circuit Court or County Court operational procedures and policies. Work is often of a confidential nature and requires direct contact with litigants. Work requires independent judgment and is performed under the general supervision of a Circuit Court or County Court judge or the Operations Division Director. Primary responsibilities of a Legal Secretary (On-Call) include the following : (1) Managing the Judge's Calendar; (2) Preparing, Reviewing and Monitoring Reports and Cases to Ensure Compliance; (3) Receptionist Duties; and (4) Other Duties as Assigned
