General Description
The Cultural Programs Temporary Theater Technicians are responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of users of the OCCC Bruce Owen Theater (BOT) and Visual Performing Arts Center Theater (VPACT).
The work includes assisting college and outside patrons with light, sound, and on-stage requirements. This requires the technician to have a flexible schedule and be available to work days, evenings and / or weekends as required by theater usage requests.
Reports To Stage Manager What position(s) reports to this position? None Minimum Education / Experience Must be at least 18 years of age.
Valid driver’s license. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of theater equipment and systems.
Experience in running the technical aspects of a theater.
Positive communication skills.
Ability to work with people from within the college as well as artists and community patrons and leaders from outside the college.
Ability to organize information to fulfill the needs of college and outside theater patrons.
Ability and willingness to perform multiple tasks in an efficient and effective manner.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours : days, evenings and / or weekends. Physical Demands / Working Conditions GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Very heavy work : This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force and constantly exert up to 50 pounds of force to move theater sound and lighting equipment and assist with stage set-up.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES :
This position requires the person to frequently move about the various theater and stage locations and occasionally perform job functions in narrow aisles or passageways.
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to internal and external constituents to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position requires the person to occasionally remain in a standing and stationary position.
This position requires the person to constantly operate theater sound and lighting equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.
This position requires the person to frequently ascend / descend a ladder to service theater sound and lighting.
This position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift or work on theater and stage equipment.
VISUAL ACUITY :
This position requires the person to detect, determine, observe and assess the accuracy and thoroughness of equipment and lighting placement.
Must assess the accuracy of the stage set-up.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
This position’s essential functions are constantly performed in indoor conditions and is frequently performed in outside conditions.
This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to fumes, odors, dusts and gases associated with a theater and stage area.
This position requires the person to occasionally wear a respirator mask. Preferred Qualifications Related work experience in theatre operations.
Required Training Trained and / or approved by the OCCC Stage Manager in use of theatre equipment and systems. Work Hours Day, evening, weekends and / or holidays as required by production schedule.

Professionally assist each theater user / user group with their event requirements to assure the success of the event while adhering to the Theater Guidelines.
Plan and carry to completion specific assignments and reports.
Interact with the public and college personnel in a professional manner.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
