Job Summary

The Market Medical Director is an important part of the ArchWell Health leadership team . The physician in this role will be responsible for leading PCPs in his / her neighborhood of clinics , which may include some clinical practice alongside their physician colleagues in order to r emain close to our patients .

The y will also have mission-critical leadership responsibilities, which include setting an example for how high-quality primary care is practiced, serving as a leader, mentor and coach to providers in ArchWell Health centers . They will also provi d e i n put on critical organizational-wide strategic initiatives.

Candidate Responsibilities

T he M a rket Medical Director will have substantial administrative time for the following leadership and administrative duties :

• P rovider Management : We want our leaders to be close to the bedside and keep their pulse on the care that is being delivered . This means that our Market M edical D irectors are in the centers provid ing leadership, support and structure to our physicians and care teams. This includes ensuring that our centers are properly staffed and call schedules are covered, a s well as recruiting / developing / coaching physicians and promoting them to take local leadership roles . Th e Market Medical Director will support performance reviews for physicians and play a key role in supporting new physician orientation and ongoing training.
• Leadership and Coaching : The success of ArchWell Health is not based on the volume of services we provide, but the quality of care that our patients receive. To achieve this goal we follow metrics such as : ( 1) hospital admission rates and visits to the e mergency d epartment (2) consistency around disease prevention and exceeding quality targets and (3) a great patient experience. In other words : ensure that our patients are happy, healthy, and out of the hospital. Our Market Medical Directors know that many physicians have not been taught how to do this, and they share their wisdom to educate physicians on how to successfully manage patients in a value-based care environment . They coach their physician colleagues on how to utilize data- driven tools and teach best- practices , and can reference their own experiences and serve as a role-model for how to keep patients well and out of the hospital.
• Care Delivery and Center Operations : The Market Medical Director will lead market- level clinical meetings, which includes weekly physician meetings and review s of currently / recently hospitalized patients and those at risk for clinical deteriorat ion. The Market Medical Director will support the care teams and teach best practices related to daily huddles, telehealth, walk-in visits, hospital follow-up, patient experience, and other activities that are critical to ensur ing our patients have access to high-quality care. This r equire s collaboration of all staff, and may inc lude regular review s of quality dashboards and outcomes that engage staff and foster s a culture of accountability and identif ies opportunities for improvement .
• Support Organizational Strategy : We expect our M arket M edical Directors to play a key role in supporting our goal of continuous improvement. In addition to providing leadership at the bedside, they will collaborate with the corporate team and leadership in other markets to share best practices and improvement opportunities. While the Market Medical Director will have a deep understanding of their local regional / neighborhood, they will also have strategic input into a variety of organizational-wide goals and initiatives that will include the following categories :
• Network development and special ty referrals
• Documentation and accurate coding
• Quality improvement and HEDIS measures
• Utili z ation management
• Transitional care and case management
• Clinical compliance and policy development
• Patient engagement and community outreach
