POSITION SUMMARY :

With very little or no supervision, will perform duties as assigned by management in the repair, maintenance and / or rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field, in a safe, efficient and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours necessary, and without re-work. This position requires work to be completed within 110% of any Flat Rate times that are established as targets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

\n

  • Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions.

\n

  • Remove and install parts, disassemble, and assemble components, and test and adjust assemblies with minimal supervision.

    • \n

  • Perform Caterpillar updates as directed by Caterpillar, Inc.

    • \n

  • Analyze all Caterpillar and allied product equipment systems and components for proper operation based on theory of design.

    • \n

    \n

  • Perform new and used equipment start-up for delivery to end-user.

    • \n

    \n

  • Effectively communicate with peers, leads and other staff members.

    • \n

  • Organize a job in a logical and economical sequence.

    • \n

  • Utilize Cat Interact and ServiceLink (computer programs) and other online tools as required.

    • \n

  • Enter labor time daily (ServiceLink).

    • \n

  • Perform assigned work within the communicated time quoted / flat rated.

    • \n

  • Conduct customer training in proper use of Caterpillar and other equipment as needed.

    • \n

  • Complete assigned jobs to meet flat rate times with minimal to no rework.

    • \n

  • Write service reports that accurately document diagnosis and repairs performed on a daily basis.

    • \n

  • Attend toolbox meetings as required.

    • \n

  • Adhere to all company policies.

    • \n

  • Follow contamination control and OSHA / MSHA rules and regulations.

    • \n

  • Guide / mentor / train technicians with less expertise in the repairs of Caterpillar machines and systems.

    • \n

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    \n

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

    \n

  • High school diploma or equivalent provide verification of all formal classroom study or hands on experience related to heavy equipment repairs.

    • \n

  • Prefer to have one of the following.

    • \n

    Minimum (10) years of experience in the repair of Caterpillar or other heavy equipment products.

    \n

  • Successful completion of Level Two Technician program

    • \n

  • Knowledge of basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, laptops, diagnostic software and cranes / rigging equipment.

    • \n

    \n

    \n

  • Expert working knowledge of hydraulics and powertrains.

    • \n

  • Proficient in the repairs of electrical and electronic systems.

    • \n

  • Ability to provide accurate information to lead / supervisor for quoting.

    • \n

  • Adapts to changes in the work environment;

    • \n

    Manages competing demands;

    \n

  • Changes approach or method to best fit the situation;

    • \n

  • Deals with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events in a professional manner.

    • \n

    \n

    \n

  • Must be able to obtain a passing score for the crane qualification test performed by a qualified Hawthorne trainer for this position.

    • \n

  • Ability to work unsupervised efficiently and be part of a team environment.

    • \n

  • Must be able to pass the Lock Out / Tag Out & Forklift certification class provided by a qualified Hawthorne trainer for this position.

    • \n

  • Perform the position with pride in professionalism while following Hawthorne's code of conduct.

    • \n

  • Possess basic computer knowledge and ability to use service software required in position.

    • \n

  • Must have valid California Driver's License with a clean record.

    • \n

    \n

    Shop Requirements : Valid California Class "C" driver's license.

    Field Requirements : Valid California Class "B" driver's license, if assigned vehicle is required.

  • Furnish all hand tools required to repair, test and diagnose hydraulic, air, power train, electrical and electronic systems on Caterpillar equipment.

    • \n

    NOTE : Some high dollar value tooling is supplied by Hawthorne.

  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit; puts success of team above own interests; able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives; supports everyone's efforts to succeed.

    • \n

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS : \n

  • Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.

    • \n

  • Hands / arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.

    • \n

  • Lifting : Up to 50 lbs. daily, frequent exertion.

    • \n

  • Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.

    • \n

  • Handling : Works with hands.

    • \n

  • Reaching : Extends hands and arms in any direction.

    • \n

  • Standing : Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.

    • \n

  • Climbing : In and out of equipment.

    • \n

  • Vision : Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operates heavy equipment.

    • \n

  • Talking : Communicates via telecommunications and in person.

    • \n

  • Sitting : Sits in equipment and in vehicles.

    • \n

  • Stooping : Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.

    • \n

  • Hearing : Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication via telecommunications and in person.

    • \n

  • Laying : Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.

    • \n

    \n

    ENVIRONMENTAL :

    Noise : Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.

    Temperatures / Weather : Works in a warehouse and outside with variations of temperature and weather.

    Exposure : Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.
