Job Title : Stepdown RN Profession : Registered Nurse Specialty : PCU RN Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12H Days Hours per Shift : 12 hours Experience : Minimum 2 years License : Required Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have : - RN's must pass an exam during orientation. - Must receive a minimum score of 90% to pass. - Candidates must comply with the fingernail policy; artificial nails are prohibited. - RNs are required to titrate drips. - RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips. Description : This is a stepdown unit with 22 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 4. Common patient diagnoses include heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke. RNs are expected to administer and manage titratable drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin. There will be a Charge Nurse on each shift, who will also take a full patient assignment. Patient care technicians are available on this unit with a ratio of 1 : 10. RNs may be required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as CPAP. RNs are expected to participate in cyclic scheduling with shifts from 6 : 30 AM to 7 : 00 PM and 6 : 30 PM to 7 : 00 AM. Weekend requirements include every other weekend, and holiday requirements include one major and one minor holiday. RNs may float to the ICU if they have the appropriate experience. There will be one 12-hour shift of specific orientation for the unit. Candidates must have a positive attitude, teamwork skills, and a patient-oriented demeanor. Additional Requests : All time-off requests must be submitted upfront. Additional time-off requests will not be approved after submission. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC.
