Position Summary

The CNC Supervisor oversees daily operations of the CNC machining department, ensuring efficient workflow, quality compliance, and adherence to safety standards. This position is a working lead role—responsible for both supervising machinists and programmers and actively contributing to production through setup, programming, and troubleshooting. The CNC Supervisor plays a key role in meeting production schedules, optimizing machining processes, and developing the skills of the shop team.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Supervision
• Lead, mentor, and coordinate the activities of CNC machinists, programmers, and setup operators on the 1st shift.
• Assign work based on production schedules, priorities, and operator skill levels.
• Train team members on safe work practices, machine operation, and process improvements.
• Production Oversight
• Monitor and manage daily shop floor operations to ensure on-time delivery of quality parts.
• Ensure compliance with engineering specifications, drawings, and GD&T standards.
• Oversee setup, programming edits, and first-piece inspections for complex parts.
• Quality & Process Control
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure adherence to aerospace, defense, and ISO / AS9100 quality standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, improve efficiency, and standardize setups.
• Investigate and resolve production or quality issues in a timely manner.
• Technical Contributions
• Operate and program CNC lathes, mills, and Swiss machines as required to support production.
• Review and optimize CNC programs (Mastercam, Esprit, or similar) for efficiency and accuracy.
• Select tooling, workholding, and machining strategies for complex materials (titanium, stainless steel, aluminum, plastics).
• Administrative & Coordination Duties
• Maintain accurate job records, time tracking, and production reports.
• Support hiring, performance reviews, and discipline of shop personnel.
• Coordinate with engineering, planning, and maintenance to ensure smooth workflow and equipment readiness.
