The Outpatient Therapy clinic at Denver Health works with a very diverse caseload from post operative ortho, trauma, and general orthopedics. We have a large, collaborative Physical Therapy team that is focused on continual learning and growth to consistently provide the best care possible. Our environment supports a 1 : 1 patient ratio, allowing us to provide high-quality care and make a positive impact on each and every patient.

Job Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant, under direct supervision, assist physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures. May, in accordance with state laws, assist in the development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, document the progress of treatment, and modify specific treatments in accordance with patient status and within the scope of treatment plans established by a physical therapist.

Essential Functions :

  • Patient Care
  • Assists Physical Therapists in performing rehabilitative treatment procedures and techniques. Monitors patient's response to treatment is closely monitored and assessed. Assist patients to dress, undress, or put on and remove supportive devices, such as braces, splints, or slings. Recommended hanges and upgrades are communicated to the primary therapist. (50%)

  • Pre Treatment
  • Collaborates with appropriate parties to coordinate patient treatment authorization. Receives authorization prior to treatment and treatment will commence as outlined by the insurance carrier. (15%)

  • Documentation
  • Complete patient care documentation recording the prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart. Update medical records according to prescribed departmental standards. Complete appropriate data bases, problem lists, treatment goals and individualized plan of care. Completes patient charges per department guidelines. (15%)

  • Discharge
  • Discharges patient from physical therapy, provide home-care instructions, provide referrals (10%)

  • Equipment Maintenance
  • Monitor operation of equipment and record use of equipment and administration of treatment. (5%)

  • Education
  • May assist in orientating and training new employees, PT-student, hospital staff, and precepts new employees during orientation. Trains and educates patients, family members and care-givers in therapy principles, methods and techniques in order to achieve intended outcomes. (5%)

    Education :

  • Associate's Degree Physical Therapy Assistant Program required
  • Work Experience :

  • Less than 1 year required
  • Licenses :

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association required and
  • PTA-Physical Therapist Assistant - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies required
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Assisting and Caring for Others- Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers, or patients.
  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Problem solving - the ability to systematically analyze problems, draw relevant conclusions and devise appropriate courses of action.
  • Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Knowledge of theory, principles and practice of physical therapy.
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Knowledge of safety principles in patient care environment.
  • Knowledge of standards, polices and procedures of Denver Health as they pertain to physical therapy.
  • Ability to integrate requirements of the facility and / or regulatory agencies into clinical decisions and documentation.
  • 2 Locations :

    Main hospital campus. Large PT clinic in outpatient medical center.

    Smaller clinic in Community Health Care Center (Rhino district)
