Mainframe Technical Advisor

Position Summary

The Mainframe Systems Technical Advisor (MF TA) serves as the lead technical representative for the client, delivering expertise in strategy development, troubleshooting, and execution. The MF TA possesses extensive knowledge of the Client solution, representing both the client and Ensono's technical teams in engagements. This role emphasizes the importance of open communication across departments, using sound judgment to achieve objectives. MF TAs employ analytical skills to identify, communicate, and resolve issues while enhancing the client's infrastructure.

The Mainframe Technical Advisor team commits to delivering enhanced service to clients by :

  • Fostering strong client relationships as a primary contact point.
  • Engaging in proactive and reactive problem management to minimize recurring issues, promoting knowledge sharing within the MF TA team and across other teams as necessary.
  • Cooperating with internal departments to address client concerns and facilitate communication for large, complex projects.
  • Utilizing thought leadership to provide insights and recommendations for operational excellence.

Key Areas of Focus for this Role

  • Partnering with the Service Delivery Manager to identify MF operational trends, risks, insights, and enhancements, developing action and mitigation plans.
  • Collaborating with Capacity Management to analyze data and trends, initiating plans for performance improvement and operational excellence.
  • Working with Solution Architects to assess and validate service offerings for clients, offering solution recommendations.
  • Gaining an in-depth understanding of clients' business and technology needs, collaborating to create and maintain Technology Roadmaps while identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Establishing a comprehensive understanding of the client's environment and the Ensono support model.
  • Aiding in the creation and execution of service improvement plans.
  • Facilitating communication between Ensono teams and client stakeholders to introduce efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Participating in Major Incidents as a key contact for significant outages.
  • Attending monthly and quarterly service review meetings with clients to discuss insights, recommendations, and project updates.
  • Contributing to Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery efforts.
  • Playing a role in knowledge transfer during client onboarding to ensure smooth support transitions.
  • Engaging in mentorship and knowledge-sharing activities with operational teams.
  • Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a zOS environment, complemented by a bachelor's degree. Equivalent work experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Technical expertise across multiple Mainframe teams.
  • Knowledge of Disaster Recovery planning and implementation.
  • Proficient in client-facing communication and service delivery.
  • Experience onboarding new clients in a managed service context.
  • Capability to interact with software and hardware vendors.
  • Thorough understanding of Mainframe hardware and software infrastructure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for creating client-facing documents.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service abilities at management level.
  • Experience in establishing and documenting processes and procedures.
  • Strong collaborative and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with knowledge in problem analysis.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to oversee multiple projects.
  • Willingness to take ownership of issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Ability to conduct meetings and manage conference calls.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a managed services environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with mainframe functional areas such as TCP / IP, VTAM, SNA, SFTP, and related ISV software products on the z / OS platform.
  • Experience in a large-scale 24 / 7 production environment.
  • ITIL certification is desirable.

The estimated salary range for this role is between $100,000 and $183,000, depending on skills, experience, and business needs. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus and equity grants.
