Machine Operator - 1st Shift (HLG).
Job Summary :
The Machine Operator sets-up and performs necessary hone or lap on inside and / or outside diameters of various precision parts using honing and lapping machines and materials.
Studies blueprints, work orders, and / or machining instructions to determine product dimensions, diameters, tooling. Observes and adjusts machine operation.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Set-up and operate Sunnen hones (manual and power stroker) to hone inside diameters on various sleeves, bodies, bushings and other precision parts in accordance with Blueprint, and Manufacturing Outline specifications.
- Set-up and operate Federal and Standard air gages, Sunnen gages and mikrokators
- Lap inside diameters of various precision parts to achieve required size, straightness, roundness and finish.
- Lap fit slides to sleeves with precise diametrical clearances.
- Ball lap various seats to precise tolerances
- De-burr slides and sleeves to proper specifications
- Thoroughly clean parts of all honing oil and lapping compound
- Be responsible to see that calibrated equipment is returned to Metrology Lab prior to the calibration due date.
- Participation in and support of Hone, Lap and Grind Team activities
- Any other task assigned by supervisor or management.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Experience : 2+ years’ experience in Hone Lap and Grind (preferred)
- Knowledge : Knowledge of proper mandrels, stones, speeds, strokes, abrasive paper, laps, and abrasive compounds to achieve Blueprint and method of operation requirements
- Skills / Abilities : Ability to correct such conditions as taper, bell mouth, and barrel in through and blind holes.
- Education / Certification : High School Diploma or equivalent

Lapping operations experience
Working Conditions :
- Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
- Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel / wrist straps and any other required PPE.
- Ability to lift objects up to 40 lbs.
- Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary.
