Job Description
The Associate Attorney position requires you to take initiative, be a hard worker, and to have attention to detail. A substantial portion of the Associate Attorney's time will be dedicated to case review. The Associate Attorney is the gatekeeper of the work coming out of the legal department and is responsible for the quality of the work being passed to the founding Attorney. During case review, you will need to demonstrate your keen attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to connect various pieces of information. The position requires leadership, cross-functional teamwork, and exemplary dedication towards the Vergara Miller Law Firm's mission of "changing people's lives."
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Review consultation notes, analyze and confirm case legal strategy.
- Complete a detailed final case review of client's petition.
- Have high-level communication with the legal team to resolve legal questions.
- Attend USCIS interviews and represent clients in removal proceedings in all states.
- Prepare legal documents including briefs, motions, pleadings, and appeals.
- Stay current on changes to immigration laws, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and update the firm and clients as necessary.
- Conduct phone / in-person meetings with clients to answer their questions.
- Handle emergency motions and analyze information.
- Innovate, develop, and implement process improvement initiatives.
Skills
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.2-3 years of immigration law experience preferred, including family-based petitions, removal defense, asylum, and / or naturalization cases. (Note : Open to new attorneys with a demonstrated passion for immigration law.)Experience working with diverse populations, particularly immigrants and individuals from marginalized communities.Strong knowledge of U.S. immigration laws, regulations, and court procedures.Proficient in legal research and writing (motions, briefs, and petitions).Effective oral advocacy skills for court hearings, client meetings, and USCIS interviews.Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred, as the majority of clients may be Spanish-speaking.Familiarity with immigration case management software (e.g., MyCase).Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empathize and connect with clients.Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple deadlines.Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment.Willingness to travel for court hearings, USCIS interviews, and detention center visits across the country (if necessary).Commitment to upholding the firm's values of client-centered advocacy and professional excellence.Company Description
