Position Summary :

The Prior Authorization Specialist is responsible for contacting insurance companies to obtain authorizations for visits and procedures, entering authorizations into the system, and communicating closely with front office staff and patients to ensure accurate patient responsibility collection. This position also involves phone system operation and maintaining compliance with HIPAA guidelines.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Obtain authorizations for medical visits and procedures
  • Complete and track tasks assigned through EMR systems
  • Communicate with patients regarding financial responsibility prior to visits
  • Collaborate with front office staff to ensure accurate collection at time of service
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Performance Requirements :

  • Strong phone and communication skills with a clear, professional voice
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in entering information
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public
  • Physical Demands :

  • Prolonged sitting with occasional bending, lifting, and stretching
  • Manual dexterity required for computer and phone use
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Education & Experience :

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 2 years of medical authorization experience (clinic setting preferred)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
