Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking candidates for the position of Systems Engineering Manager 2 (Modeling and Simulation) to support advanced technology development programs.
This position requires full-time work onsite at Northrop Grumman's facility in Aurora / Boulder, CO or Baltimore, MD .
What You'll Get To Do
This is a dual-role functional manager / systems engineering position. Management duties include supporting, developing, and assigning tasks to staff; developing the engineering processes; and providing resources to meet program needs. The manager will also perform technical work on programs. The split between technical and functional management duties will be approximately 80% technical / 20% functional, on average. The direct program work may include circuit design, device theory, characterization, or algorithm development. Technical leadership, or other direct support of a program, would also suffice. Technical work may include technical planning, integration, verification and validation, cost & risk management, and supportability and effectiveness analysis for systems. Analyses are performed at multiple levels, including concept, design, fabrication, and testing. May also perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate to systems specs as needed.
Roles and responsibilities include some or all of the following :
- Lead a team of 10-15 technical staff in a management role. Administrative management responsibilities include staffing, performance and compensation management, and career development.

- Responsible for labor and material execution through cost account management (CAM) assignments when applicable.
- Partner with program management to track execution and provide technical leadership to the team.
- Ensure proper engineering processes and procedures are followed.
- Work with peers and training leads to identify critical skill shortfalls; develop appropriate technical training; and improve team performance.
Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or something closely related with 7+ years' relevant experience (or Master of Science degree with 4 years of relevant experience; PhD with 2 year of relevant experience) within a related engineering field.Proven skills in tackling / solving complex problems in the context of Electrical Theory / PhysicsAbility to learn new topics quickly in a fast-paced environmentAbility to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including managers, designers, scientists, and other engineersStrong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance per customers' requirements.Preferred Candidates will possess a minimum of three of the following qualifications :
Active U.S. Government security clearance.Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to implement system engineering practices.9 years of experience in a multi-disciplined science / engineering environment.Familiarity with quantum information, quantum error correction, and / or fault-tolerant quantum computationDesign experience in RF, analog, digital, or mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs).Solid understanding of circuit design theory; hands-on circuit design or verification experience.Familiarity with characterization, verification, and validation protocols, including randomized benchmarking and tomographyProficient in the use of commercial CAD software (Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics) in the design, layout, or verification of Monolithic Microwave (MMIC) or Application Specific (ASIC) integrated circuits.Experience in modeling, designing, and / or simulating conductivityExperience in research of superconductivity, including but not limited to :Material characterizationExperimental techniques related to superconducting materialsTheoretical modeling of superconducting phenomenaApplication development in superconductivityBackground in one or more of the following areas of mathematics :Statistics and OptimizationNumerical Linear algebra (e.g. Tensor Network algorithms)Group and Representation Theory
