plans to meet objectives and deliver results. Manages fiscal, physical, and personnel resources and may manage multiple facilities and personnel.

The Associate Facilities Director is responsible for the implementation of operational management-level decisions applied down through subordinate staff (Managers, trades, engineering, and applications teams). Supports the Director with objectives, programs, develops strategies and policies, and manages human, financial, and physical resources. Proactively collaborates with the management team to assess risk in establishing systems and procedures to protect organizational initiatives. Through governance, determines strategies and programs that support and align with organization-wide goals.

The position reports to the Director of Facilities and Support Services.

Establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate professionals or managers. Reviews and approves recommendations for facilities management and related programs. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing facilities management resources. Involved in developing, modifying, and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s). Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals result in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $200,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF Health Facilities and Support Services is responsible for facilities maintenance and repair of approximately 100 buildings to include in-house infrastructure-related construction projects, emergency response, repairs and regular maintenance as well as regulatory documentation of the above processes. This is achieved through the efforts of a hospital maintenance team of contract engineers, crafts trades persons, outside contractor vendors and a group of Facilities Management professionals. The overall objective of the group's efforts is to ensure a high level of operating system reliability and customer service in order to provide the best possible environment for patient care and safety. Call Center, Energy, Utilities and Infrastructure, Business Applications, BIM4FM, Safety (F&LS, Helideck), Hospital Projects, Leaseholds all fall under the F&SS umbrella.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years demonstrated success in managing the operations of a large medical center or institutional facility
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in compatible interaction with regulatory agencies such as, but not limited to : State Fire Marshal, OSHA, City of San Francisco, BAAQMD, FEMA, The Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH, DHS, and related Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Strong skills to facilitate and collaborate with various internal and external constituencies on short- and long-term facilities planning and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a large staff and lead a union environment
  • Strong analytical, research, and report preparation skills to meet regulatory and budgetary reporting requirements.
  • Strong skills in leadership, motivation of staff, and team-building.
  • Strong skills in management, regulatory compliance, and operations planning.
  • Strong skills in verbal and written communications.
  • Experience and knowledge to inspect construction in progress (general and specialty structures) and read, sketch, and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Broad knowledge in the areas of facilities management, space planning and allocation, security, fire and safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Demonstrated excellence in computer skills, interpersonal relations, outstanding written and oral communication skills are mandatory.
  • Extensive experience managing technical staff.
  • Detail oriented ability to focus and manage a wide and diverse array of simultaneous projects.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid work environment under pressure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and / or 5 years of related field management experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Health Care Facility Manager (CHFM)
  • Direct experience in designing Key Performance Indicators to support preventative maintenance compliance.
  • Key Shop / Security experience at a large academic Medical Center
  • Knowledge of computer programs common to the electronic security, keyway integrations industry, to include working knowledge of Aetheon TUGS robotics
  • Radio Systems Experience (400Mhz / 700Mhz)
  • IBM Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management experience
