Position Summary :

The Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology at FAU’s College of Education invites applications for Chair and Professor. We are seeking a highly ethical and collaborative candidate to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across the department, college, and university, to achieve our shared mission and goals. This full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Professor begins on July 1, 2026, and is based on the Boca Raton campus. The Department Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Education.

The successful candidate will teach master’s and doctoral courses, advise and mentor Ph.D. students, enable and promote strong scholarship by department faculty, develop innovative and entrepreneurial partnerships, actively participate in faculty recruitment, retention, and alumni engagement efforts, and serve on departmental committees related to Educational Leadership and Research Methodology. They will foster ethical and collaborative relationships with colleagues and students throughout the university, promote the department’s mission, support the teaching profession, and pursue an active research and scholarship agenda in educational leadership and / or research methodology.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold an earned doctoral degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in one of the department’s focus areas, such as higher education, school leadership, research methodology, or related fields (e.g., administration, educational leadership, public policy, etc.).
  • Have a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and service that meets FAU’s tenure eligibility requirements and possess the rank of full professor at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrate administrative, managerial, social, and financial skills necessary to effectively lead an academic department.
  • Exhibit success as a collaborative leader with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Show substantive commitment and contributions to higher education, educational leadership, or research methodology.
  • Meet eligibility requirements to work legally in the United States at the time of appointment and throughout the proposed employment term.

  • Responsibilities

    The department chair acts as the senior faculty member and administrator of the academic department. This person is responsible for setting a strategic direction for the department, ensuring coherence, quality, and differentiation across the three academic programs of higher education leadership, school leadership, and research methodology, recruiting and developing faculty, improving instructional programs and quality, coordinating research and service initiatives, evaluating personnel, and representing the department inside and outside the university through the dean. The chair also maintains connections with students, other administrators, university councils and committees, alumni, professional organizations, and various public and private groups. Working with the college dean, the department chair prepares the annual budget request, oversees the use of funds, and manages other available resources. The chair promotes strong relationships within the department and across programs and collaborates with the dean and other leaders of the college to guide its overall work.

    College of Education (COE)

    The COE at FAU is one of the most diverse in Florida’s State University System. The COE has five academic departments : Counselor Education, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership and Research Methodology, and Special Education. The college offers 34 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and nine certificates. The faculty comprises over 76 full-time faculty members and instructors. The COE faculty maintains robust research and service agendas, contributing to their field of study, the university, and local and national communities.

    Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology (ELRM)

    The Department includes faculty in three program areas : Higher Education Leaders, School Leaders, and Research Methodology. The Higher Education Leadership Program offers

    an Undergraduate Leadership Studies Minor, an M.Ed., Specialist, and Ph.D. degrees. The School Leaders program offers an M.Ed. degree with certification, Specialist and Ph.D. degrees.
