Science Teacher (Biology Honors)

American Heritage Schools - Palm Beach Campus is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable instructor to lead its high-level Biology Honors course. This course is designed for motivated students with a strong interest in advanced biological concepts. The curriculum will cover key areas including :

• Biochemistry : Exploring the chemical processes and substances that occur within living organisms.
• Genetics : Delving into the study of heredity and the variation of inherited characteristics.
• Gene Modification : Examining the techniques of the central dogma and how DNA leads to protein creation.
• Macromolecules : Investigating the structure and function of essential biological macromolecules.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in biology, preferably with a Masters degree AND significant experience in hands on laboratory techniques. Experience teaching honors-level or advanced placement science courses is highly desirable.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The classroom teacher is responsible for educating and supporting students to help them reach learning targets. Teachers must be content area experts who make sound instructional decisions, create and maintain a learning environment where positive relationships are built and routines and procedures are in place to create collective responsibility. Teachers are responsible for providing rich learning tasks for intellectual engagement, assessing formatively and summatively, and providing feedback to students for their academic achievement.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Follow the AHS curriculum framework / scope and sequence

Assess learning in a variety of ways, using formative and summative measures including but not limited to traditional and alternative assessments; prepare and administer semester and / or final exams and standardized tests

Maintain standards of appropriate discipline in accordance with school rules and the student handbook

Prepare progress reports and provide comments as needed
