Compensation Range : (Hourly : $28-$30 / hr : Annual : 60-62K)

Reporting To : Finance Manager
Work Location : Houston, TX
Work Hours : 8 : 00 a.m. – 5 : 00 p.m. (1-hour lunch)
Position Summary :
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Staff Accountant for a temporary role to support our financial operations. The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience with Microix Software and MIP Fund Accounting Software, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Senior Staff Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audit processes, and contributing to the organization’s fiscal integrity and transparency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Bank Reconciliation : Reconcile bank statements accurately on a monthly basis; identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.Journal Entries & Cash Management : Prepare and process journal entries related to cash transactions, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.Account Reconciliation : Complete monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.Financial Reporting : Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and grant expenditure reports; perform variance analysis and initial review of financial reports.Budgeting & Expenditures : Support the development of a balanced annual budget; monitor and report on revenue, including in-kind contributions, and expenditures monthly.Payroll & Credit Card Reconciliation : Prepare payroll-related reports and reconcile credit card expenses monthly.Cost Allocation & Audit Support : Assist in developing the Agency’s Annual Cost Allocation Plan; prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for external audits and IRS filings, including IRS Form 990.Vendor & Compliance Reconciliation : Reconcile vendor documentation; prepare and file IRS Form 1099-Misc annually.Discrepancy Resolution : Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, ensuring data integrity.Financial Integrity & Professional Standards : Uphold the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in all financial activities.Additional Responsibilities : Perform other related duties as assigned, supporting organizational goals and compliance.Essential Traits & Competencies :

Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Experience : Proven experience in financial accounting, preferably within a non-profit setting; familiarity with GAAP and OMB’s Uniform Administrative Guidance preferred.Technical Skills :Proficiency with Microix Software and MIP Fund Accounting Software is mandatory.
Strong knowledge of financial statements and ability to communicate financial information clearly.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access).Experience with financial systems and human resources / payroll systems is a plus.Analytical Skills : High level of analytical ability; capable of interpreting complex financial data.Mathematical Skills : Advanced math skills to support accurate financial analysis and reporting.Certifications & Licensing : Reliable transportation required.Physical Demands & Work Environment :
Ability to sit, hear, speak, and use hands frequently.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, reach overhead, and perform physical tasks as needed.The role is performed primarily in an office setting, with noise levels typical of an administrative environment.
