Youth Counselor

SUMMARY

The Youth Counselor will actively participate in the development of a comprehensive Residence Life program. The Advisor will function as a peer resource, mentor, and advisor to student-athletes who reside at the RSL Training Academy. The Youth Counselor must have a willingness to be called into service at any time during their shift to meet students' needs as they arise.

This is a live-in position.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :

• Collaborates with the Residence Hall Manager to help guide the overall direction, quality, integrity, and success of the residential environment.
• Proactively ensures the safety and well-being of student-athletes for the RSLTA.
• Identifies critical issues or trends (i.e. health concerns, peak stress times, emotional difficulties, academic problems, etc.), and develops strategic plans for addressing or correcting these issues promptly and refers or connects individuals to resources, as appropriate.
• Provides necessary support, care and mentoring to all players in the dorms, especially regarding off-the-field matters.
• Plans and facilitates meaningful activities that involve learning life skills and providing services to others
• Educates residents about Housing policies and procedures, and addresses policy violations, as needed.
• Ensures compliance with Safe Sport policies and procedures.
• Transports students to local trips and airport runs.
• Conducts room checks to ensure the cleanliness of students' rooms and to be visible to the students. Also conducts room checks at curfew.
• Assist in the management of crises and report emergencies or serious illnesses.
• Reports issues regarding dorm players and dorm building to Residence Hall Manager.
• Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT :

The job requires regularly lifting / pushing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting / pushing more than 25 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity or environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, typing, etc.
