Entry - Refractory Technician

The Entry - Refractory Technician is a skilled and adaptable tradesperson that has experience in various processes of refractory and brick laying.

Job Responsibilities

Aptitude to set or learn to set forms, mix, and pour refractory according to supplied specifications Ability to build and maintain refractory forms with supervision Operate and maintain large refractory mixes of various makes and models with training and supervision Must be able to adapt and problem solve in a fast paced work environment Measure, cut, and install high temperature insulation Weld refractory hangers per supplied drawings Completes assigned tasks efficiently and with an attention to detail and quality. Commitment to safety in the workplace. Willingness to learn and elevate their skill level. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements

Associate's Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical / trade school preferred 1+ years of experience in masonry, concrete finishing, or related field Previous work experience related to concrete finishing and masonry Basic knowledge of the basic concepts of refractory Basic knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions when dealing refractory and insulation Basic verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning) Basic understanding and application of mathematical concepts Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment Ability to work with peers and management in a positive team atmosphere Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines Possess a mechanical aptitude; ability to use a large variety of hand tools and basic knowledge of power tools, forklifts, etc Ability to work overtime as necessary.

Physical Aspects / Work Environment

Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and see. Regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Regularly exposed to hot and / or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment may be high.
