Job Description :
The Retail Manager is responsible for the retail operations at Meow Wolf Houston. Major duties include managing all Retail staff and Managers on Duty, as well as department budget management and improvement to retail operations policies and procedures.
Reporting to the Operations Director, Revenue, the Retail Manager ensures the profitability of retail operations by effectively managing all business aspects of retail, such as inventory, managing staffing, creating budgets, and setting goals.
How you will do it...
Manage labor, productivity, quality control, and safety measures as established and set for the Operations Division and the site specifically
Carry out supervisory responsibilities by company policies and applicable laws
Initiate, encourage, and maintain internal and cross-departmental communication
Hire and train staff to provide a memorable and uniquely Meow Wolf level of service to guests
Models and enforces proper cash management protocols by delivering POS training to staff and following company policies for cash handling and cash room compliance
Assures the store is properly stocked and visually merchandised as required
Directly supervising Assistant Retail Managers, Retail Leads, and gift shop staff
Directly support all site initiatives including, but not limited to, the role-playing element required of all staff members when interacting with guests
Fulfill all Managers on Duty duties, skills, and knowledge, including the ability to perform any role within the Retail department
Create effective schedules to ensure work centers are well-staffed during peak hours
Providing feedback and reviews for all Retail staff; maintaining high-quality staff performance
Analyze customer feedback and suggest ways to improve product lines
Actively listen to and resolve complaints
Set and maintain high standards of organization and cleanliness throughout the bar including safe food handling
Respond to injuries and emergencies appropriately
Managing, reviewing, and signing off on payroll for all hourly employees
Making projections for hiring needs and completing hiring procedures
With Human Resources, recommending and developing Retail staff training
Managing the Retail department budget
Recommending, creating, and communicating policies and procedures
Maintaining knowledge of events, special programs, and projects and communicating them to the staff
Tracking fluctuations in visitation numbers and adjusting staffing levels accordingly
Other duties as assigned
To be successful in this role...
Minimum 5 years of management experience in retail / entertainment / operations environment
Proven work experience as a Retail Manager or similar role
Hands-on experience with point-of-sale systems
Proven experience developing, managing, and achieving budgets
Strong service skills and a welcoming demeanor required
An interest in the arts
Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays

Prior leadership experience in a retail, museum, park, recreation facility, or other public space
Experience training staff and identifying training needs
Prior leadership experience in retail, exhibit, attraction, museum, or other public space
Adult + Child + Infant CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
Hidden talents that can be employed as part of the persona include singing, dancing, magic, comedy, conversationalist, impersonation, or otherwise
Prior experience with visual merchandising
Bilingual, especially but not limited to English and Spanish

This is a full-time position averaging 40 hours a week and requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs arise.
This position works primarily in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines, and small and / or enclosed spaces.
Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs / slides / elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night.
Employees may be required to lift to 40 lbs. remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods, and repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, and / or fingers.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
