PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
Job Summary
Under the supervision of a physician provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services in the adult intensive care unit.
Job Responsibilities
- Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination.
- Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic procedures.
- Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers.
- Provides counseling and education to patients and their families / caregivers concerning preventative health and treatment options.
- Provides accurate and timely documentation of assessment and patient care plan.
- Assists with admissions, consults, daily progress notes, and transfers from critical care unit.
- Coordinates care between medical specialties.
- Participates in morning rounding with intensivist and rounding with the multidisciplinary intensive care team.
- Assists intensivist with procedures which include central line and arterial line placement; additional procedures may include chest tube placement and thoracentesis with the pulmonologists / intensivists.
- Assists with basic ventilator management.
- Performs critical care ultrasound procedures.
