Cooking Lab Teaching Assistant
Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) has been acquired by Notre Dame of Maryland University as of February 5, 4.
This exciting acquisition will bring new opportunities for students as the transition unfolds. This position will work with MUIH programs and is considered an employee of Notre Dame of Maryland University.
The online and on-campus cooking lab teaching assistant (TA) is a critical liaison between the students and the instructor.
The TA is in full support to the instructor.
- Grade course assignments and assessments as a first grader with the aid of grading rubrics, and provide grade recommendations to the faculty member.
- Be familiar with course content, organization, and assignments and explain these to students as needed.
- Answer student emails within hours.
- Refer students to appropriate resources as needed for successful learning outcomes.
- Promote active learning and student engagement in addition to answering students’ questions.
- Model effective online interaction for students.
- Spot, address, and inform the faculty member of retention issues such as a) students who continue to struggle academically in the course, b) students who have stopped participating, c) chronically late submission of course work, and d) administrative or financial problems routinely encountered by students.
- Assist with guidance on proper APA use, by providing resources or directing them to our internal student support resources
- Provides a report at the end of the course about the experience during the course
Education and Experience Qualifications
Requires knowledge of all the course materials that is covered in each cooking lab. Must have taken some or all of the cooking labs as a student.
We prefer an MUIH graduate of the Nutrition MS degree or similar degree and fluency with all cooking techniques and terminology.
Skills and Abilities
- Possess clear communication skills both oral and written
- Be patient yet discern when a student is not performing due to lack of participation
