Job Summary :

The University of Colorado seeks an exceptional physician-scientist leader to serve as the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the E. Stewart Taylor, MD, Endowed Chair in Obstetrics & Gynecology. This senior leadership role is responsible for advancing the strategic, clinical, educational, and research missions of the department. The Chair will foster excellence in patient care, innovative research, and top-tier education and training programs. As a key member of the institution's leadership team, the Chair will collaborate across disciplines to achieve strategic goals and establish the department as a national model for integrated academic and clinical excellence in women's health and reproductive sciences.

This position requires a dynamic, passionate, and experienced physician / scientist leader with a proven track record across the spectrum of individual scholarship, collaborative academic leadership, clinical and research program development, educational excellence, successful faculty recruitment and retention, community engagement, and the design and implementation of effective programs within and across complex organizations.

Key Responsibilities :

• In collaboration with the leadership of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, provide visionary and innovative leadership to lead the department into the next phase of growth and development.
• Ensure an atmosphere of respect, professional support, and development for all stakeholders.
• Support the goal of recognizing the value of all employees and contributing to a positive, collaborative culture that engenders a commitment to the organization's success.
• Ensure a deliberate and priority-driven investment into research, educational and clinical activities for the department and institution.
• Advocate for women's health and reproductive rights by promoting access to comprehensive healthcare services to ensure that all women receive the necessary support and resources they need.
• Provide the vision and leadership to achieve superior clinical programs within Obstetrics & Gynecology and related disciplines. Work with other leaders at the University of Colorado to build and grow areas of acknowledged clinical excellence.
• Define and lead the research strategy, supporting principal investigators and other faculty within the Department in efforts to secure NIH and other grant funding and ensuring deliberate investment into research activities, and priorities to promote growth and facilitate future success.
• Ensure delivery of excellent clinical education and advanced training to medical students, residents, and fellows. Provide leadership and oversight to the residency and fellowship programs within the Department and ensure learners are receiving comprehensive training and development opportunities.
• Supervise, prepare, implement, and monitor the budget so that it encompasses all funding sources and complies with grant, legislative, and institutional guidelines.

Research : The history of research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is rich and diverse. Seminal, historic achievements in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, and Reproductive Endocrinology have emanated from this institution, including but not limited to :

The department constitutes a vibrant, exciting and innovative environment in which mechanistic, translational and clinical research in women's health - with a particular focus on reproduction - is highly integrated. To this end, the department has established research programs in all the major subdivisions of OB-GYN and some non-traditional areas, such as mammary gland biology. Moreover, the department has established an extensive and attractive infrastructure, including programs to assist all departmental members in IRB and grant proposal submission, grant writing, grant review, scientific writing, and patient recruitment, to facilitate and promote the research mission. The department has developed full-spectrum bench-to-bedside research programs in most of these areas and have been participants in numerous clinical trials, both NIH and industry-sponsored. The department's goal to be among the 10 best NIH funded OB / GYN departments is realistic and highly achievable.

Researchers have partnered with the community to engage patients through the Center for Women's Health Research and through division-based community initiatives and have maintained old and created new collaborative research efforts that reach into geriatrics, metabolism and endocrinology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and -omics technology. In addition to these traditional scientific efforts, researchers collaborate intensely with each other and self-evaluate on a regular basis to maintain the most effective research teams possible.

Education : Education is central to the identity and the mission of the Department of OB-GYN at the University of Colorado. The OB-GYN Clerkship provides clinical experiences in both inpatient and outpatient settings, serving patients ranging in age from adolescents to the end of life. Every year, over 140 students rotate through the OB-GYN clerkship, where they have opportunities to learn and provide care to women in clinics, operating rooms, and on labor and delivery. Students work with a variety of providers, including faculty, fellows, residents, nurse midwives, and students from the department of OB-GYN, as well as other disciplines as part of interprofessional teams.

The residency program has a long and proud history going back 60 years. The training program is dedicated to providing opportunities for residents to experience the breadth and depth of Obstetrics and Gynecology through varied training sites throughout the Denver metropolitan area. In addition to basic Obstetrics and Gynecology training, further training is offered in quality improvement, palliative care, interprofessional education, advocacy, and research through innovative curriculum developed by committed faculty. The residents have early exposure to many subspecialties, offering the opportunity to explore every facet of obstetrics and gynecology. All residency and fellowship programs are fully ACGME-accredited with no pending citations.

The Department's fellowship programs provide outstanding clinical training in the areas of Family Planning, Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, OB-GYN Hospitalists, and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FMPRS). Fellows are trained by leading experts in their fields at leading hospitals across the state of Colorado, including UCHealth, Denver Health Medical Center, and Children's Hospital Colorado.

Anticipated Pay Range :

The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE :

$600,000 to $655,000.

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
