Northern Iron is looking for a Quality Engineering Technician and CMM Programmer for our business! The role of a Quality Engineering Technician and CMM Programmer is a dual function responsible for ensuring product quality by developing and running CMM inspection programs, analyzing data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and implement continuous improvements. - CMM Programming and Operation : Create, modify, and optimize Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs using specialized software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso) to measure the physical characteristics of manufactured components with high precision. Inspection and Measurement : Perform dimensional inspections on incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products using CMMs and manual inspection tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Data Analysis and Reporting : Analyze measurement data, document inspection results accurately, and generate detailed reports (e.g., First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), PPAP documentation). Quality Issue Resolution : Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to identify quality issues, participate in root cause analysis, contain non-conforming material, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Process Improvement : Support continuous improvement efforts, including conducting Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies, developing new inspection techniques, and implementing process enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy. Documentation and Standards Compliance : Create and maintain quality instructions, alerts, and work instructions, ensuring compliance with internal quality management systems and external standards (e.g., ISO, AS9100). Equipment Maintenance : Assist with the calibration and maintenance of CMM and other inspection equipment to ensure optimal performance and accuracy. Qualifications & Competencies Successful candidates typically possess a mix of technical and soft skills : Technical Knowledge : Proficiency in CMM programming software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso). Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints. Familiarity with quality control principles, statistical analysis methods (SPC), and quality management systems (QMS). Education / Experience : A high school diploma / GED is generally required, while an associate’s degree in quality assurance, Manufacturing, or a related technical field is preferred. Relevant certifications, such as the ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), are a plus. Soft Skills : Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking. Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across departments. Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
