About the unit

We are a 64 bed Inpatient Rehab Unit that sees a variety of patients who need to work on both their functional and medical problems.

We treat ortho patients recovering from hip fractures, complex knee replacement, back surgery with neurologic involvement, multi-trauma, and other orthopedic issues.

We also see neurology patients recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord tumors, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Parkinson’s, MS, and any cancer diagnosis with functional decline.

We also have patients come to our unit who had amputations and other complex medical / surgical issues with functional decline.

Patients participate in 15 hours of therapy across the 7-day week. Nursing continues the interventions practiced by the patients in therapy sessions, to continue safe mobility.

For many of our patients, Rehab is the key to getting back home with their families. This is a very rewarding unit to work on, as we all get to take part in the progress patients make towards their goal of getting home.

Scope of work

Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients.

Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients;

assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or pericare.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing. May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program.
• Note : ADN graduates will required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire / placement in a graduate nurse position.
• RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure (or) Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.
• Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically.
• Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations theory and clinical.
• Requires current BLS certification.
