2611 - Database Administrator
OVERVIEW :
The Database Administrator works at the United States Postal Service (USPS) Central Repair Facility (CRF) in Topeka, KS.
The CRF is a depot repair facility for USPS mail processing, delivery, and bulk mail systems repairable parts. Examples : repairing printed circuit boards, electrical, electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies to component level.
The CRF provides depot level maintenance for essential automation, mechanization, retail and bulk mail processing systems used in all mail processing and retail installations.
Our Database Administrator implements and maintains smooth operation and physical design of databases. Conducts performance tuning of indexes and databases in general.
Specifies, maintains and administers all server hardware and installed software. Develops and maintains applications that access and modify relational databases.
GENERAL DUTIES :
- Under general direction performs highly complex tasks where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors
- Directs and controls activities related to database design, implementation, and maintenance of one or more databases
- Serves as liaison between users and technical staff
- Responsible for establishing policies and procedures pertaining to database management, security, maintenance, and utilization
- Sets and monitors standards. Advises management on database concepts and functional capabilities
- Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization
- May develop stored procedures and / or triggers
- Extensive contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling or specific phases of projects or contracts
- Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings for internal or external representatives concerning specifics operations
- Performs other related tasks as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems with 5 years demonstrated work experience (or equivalent combination of training and professional work experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.)
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of all phases of database management
- Demonstrated expertise in Windows based server hardware and operating systems
- Microsoft Developer Studio (BIDS)
- Windows Sever 2003 and above
- Possess demonstrated experience administering MS SQL Server 2000 and above databases in a production / replication environment
- Possess experience in developing and maintaining database model diagrams to implement database integrity and sound business logic.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)
- Lean Six Sigma and ISO 9001 experience or training
