Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit :
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Position Summary :
This position offers a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Please note that work location arrangements are subject to change based on organizational needs, policy updates, or other operational considerations.
This position serves as the Grants and Research Compliance Manager, who coordinates the accounting and personnel work of the Grants Management Office for School of Nursing. It works along-side another Grants Manager. This position is responsible for preparing difficult and complex financial reports and reconciling a variety of accounts, federal contracts and grants, as well as External University subcontracts and subcontracts with non-academic businesses.
The school is committed to advancing the highest standard of integrity and ethics and to compliance with all applicable laws, policies and regulations governing research, privacy, and conflicts of interest. Therefore, this position is also responsible for research compliance and auditing the post-award grants at the School of Nursing. The person in this position is the primary research compliance contact for the Principal Investigators. He / she advises and guides the Investigators from the initiation of a grant award through the entire life of the life. He / she must assist the faculty and project managers on the proper procedures and the guidelines of both the University and the funding agency. He / she must have the knowledge of federal regulations, foundation guidelines, cost accounting standards policies, student tuition costs, health insurance & stipend requirements and other University Guidelines. Once a grant is funded, he / she designs analytical reports to provide Principal Investigators and project managers with current status and funding. In addition, these reports provide current expenditures as well as projections of future expenditures. The individual in this position functions independently and the incumbent is responsible for his / her own daily routine and schedule. He / she meets with faculty, project managers and Dean as needed to assist with all phases of the post-award grant process.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :
Entry-level with Masters; or Bachelors and 0-2 yrs experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience :
The individual in this position must have substantial knowledge of accounting principles and be experienced in the use of computer-based financial spreadsheets and databases, be able to work independently and supervise others, work well in advising and counseling others. This person must have strong organizational skills and excellent interpersonal skills. The individual must have the ability to understand, interpret and apply rules and regulations governing the processing of fiscal documents.
The incumbent must have strong written and verbal communication skills. This individual should also possess strong excel skills.
All work completed by this position requires close attention to detail and a high degree of concentration. Examples of work performed are budget analysis and forecasting, account reconciliation and report preparation. Manipulative skills would include multiple tasking, ability to shift priorities and shift clients quickly.
