Position Overview
This role involves specimen collection, handling, and processing within a clinical laboratory setting serving the Pacific Northwest region. The Laboratory Assistant I supports laboratory operations by assisting with automated, semi-automated, and manual testing procedures under the supervision of Clinical Laboratory Scientists.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
- Perform specimen collections including venipuncture and capillary sticks.
- Process and transport specimens, including sorting, requisition entry, and distribution to laboratory sections.
- Centrifuge and aliquot specimens into appropriate containers.
- Enter blood culture bottles into blood culture instrumentation.
- Manage telephone communications, triage calls, take messages, and assist clinicians with patient report inquiries.
- Support reception and triage areas within the laboratory as needed.
- Order tests in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and verify orders with nursing units or physician offices when necessary.
- Under direct supervision, set up and load tests on instruments and perform limited function checks and preventative maintenance.
- Monitor inventory of reagents and supplies, restocking and organizing as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
At least one year of relevant laboratory experience preferred.Minimum six months of phlebotomy experience preferred.Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.Strong professional communication and interpersonal skills are essential.Education
Meets educational requirements for California CPT Certification.Associate degree or equivalent in life sciences preferred.Certifications
Current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician credential required.Employment is contingent upon passing a physical evaluation, drug screening, and background checks. Compliance with regional COVID-19 vaccination mandates is required.
