Here's a Glimpse of the Job:
The Biology Department is seeking a Technician I to joing our team. In this role, you will apply standard scientific techniques used in research to support laboratories. You will also provide techniques and material support to the microbiology teaching labs.
Opportunities to Contribute
Prepares media, buffers, stains, and microorganisms for the teaching labs.
Assists with troubleshooting lab protocols.
Makes recommendations for improvements to lab procedures.
Arranges for hazardous waste pickup and disposal.
Responsible for proper storage and safe handling of laboratory chemicals.
Sets up of apparatus and experiments for student labs.
Sets up practical exams.
Required to transporting materials between interdisciplinary laboratories across campus.
Qualifications
High school diploma and two years of related experience.
Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Ability to work occasional night and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Some specialized knowledge in one or more of the following areas: microbiology, biotechnology, and immunology.
Laboratory and/or teaching experience.
CPR/1st aid certification and hazard chemical training.
Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.
Ensure attention to detail.
Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Special Note:Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
