Job Description
Position Summary : Were seeking a detail-oriented Technical Writer to support a county-wide effort to update and standardize approximately 300 internal job aids. This project focuses on applying a new document template, ensuring content clarity, and validating accessibility compliance. The role is perfect for someone who enjoys making technical content clean, consistent, and user-friendlyand is passionate about inclusive design.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply existing content into standardized Microsoft Word templates
- Edit job aids for clarity, consistency, and plain language
- Conduct accessibility checks (e.g., heading hierarchy, alt text, contrast)
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to clarify content and apply revisions
- Finalize documents and prepare for SharePoint publishing
- Track and report document status and progress
Required Skills and Experience
Strong writing and editing skillsProficiency in Microsoft Word and document formattingFamiliarity with digital accessibility principles (Section 508, WCAG 2.1)Experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro to validate accessibility in exported PDFs, including use of the Accessibility Checker, Tags panel, and Reading Order toolsAbility to follow templates and content guidelines with high attention to detailBasic experience using screen readers or assistive tech for accessibility checksStrong time management and organizational skillsClear written and verbal communicationPreferred Qualifications
Experience updating or editing instructional or technical content (e.g., job aids, user guides, Standard Operating Procedures)Familiarity with plain language best practicesExperience working with cross-functional teams or subject matter expertsKnowledge of SharePoint or document publishing workflowsExperience with Common Look or other advanced PDF accessibility toolsUnderstanding of PDF tagging and remediation workflows using Adobe Acrobat ProInterest in training, adult learning, or IT education environmentsAbout the Team
