South Bay Chapter Organizer

This position will be part of NDWA’s field, membership and organizing teams. The South Bay Chapter Organizer will focus on growing the chapter’s domestic worker membership. They will lead the base building work of the chapter, including outreach and educating domestic workers about their rights. They will also develop the leadership of domestic worker members across the chapter through leadership development programs, monthly membership meetings, training, and individual support. The Organizer will work closely with the Chapter Organizing Director and existing member leaders who play important roles in the growth of the chapter and campaigns. In addition, this position will work in close coordination and collaboration with partner organizations such as the California Domestic Workers Coalition (CDWC) and other allies and supporters in the state.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Execute a base-building and outreach plan that utilizes both online and offline tools to find, recruit and engage domestic workers

  At least % of the Organizer’s time will be spent in the field, conducting outreach and meeting with domestic workers

• Conduct mapping of new outreach regions in the South Bay (including areas of domestic worker and employer density, domestic worker serving organizations, key media outlets)

• Input new contacts and member participation into the NDWA database on a regular basis

• Conduct regular follow-up communication with new domestic worker contacts

• Provide support to regular membership meetings, including coordinating logistics for membership meetings interpreters, child-care, food, etc)

• Provide support to the chapter’s leadership development program(s) and organizing campaigns

• Support the chapter’s administrative work, including processing expense reimbursements and invoices

• Support with the project’s social media communications

• Develop a strong network of support and solidarity with other local organizations

• Support the Director to grow the chapter's infrastructure, expand worker programming, and engage chapter members in national NDWA campaigns and other national opportunities; engage local workers in state-level programming and campaigns as part of the CDWC

• Additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

• Highly motivated individual with a passion for engaging multiracial, low wage communities and developing the leadership of domestic workers

• Strong relational skills and ability to connect, engage, and inspire community members

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures

• Strong and effective communicator

• Must be fluent (speaking and writing) in English and Spanish

• Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle (driving to in person outreach and meeting locations is required)

• Experience developing and executing leadership development programs

• Experience with meeting facilitation and popular education training

• Basic computer skills: Google Suite, Excel, PowerPoint, database programs)

• Ability to work some evening and/or weekend hours as part of their regular schedule

• Ability to work well with a team and motivate others to take action

• Excellent time & project management skills

• Knowledge of issues affecting women of color, Black, and/or undocumented domestic workers nationally and locally

Preferred but not required:

• Familiarity with the domestic worker sector and movement

• Familiarity with labor, racial justice, and other progressive movements in California

• Proficiency with technology for remote communications, meetings, webinars, project management

• Experience with database management for organizing
