POSITION SUMMARY : The Medical Assistant (MA) position is responsible for treatment and care of our surgical patient’s environment. They will work in the direct supervision of a nurse while in a patient care environment. The MA will work within the context of the certification as part of surgical team to provide care to individuals before, during and after a surgical procedure.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide patient care to individuals in the pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods while under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse; collaborates with medical staff and other departments daily to promote coordination of patient care.
- Provide support to nursing staff : transport of the patient, housekeeping duties associated with changeover of pre-surgical, operating room, and post-surgical areas including linen changes and disinfection processes.
- Provide administrative support to the ASC : clerical duties to include but not limited to assisting with chart maintenance / scanning, data entry, copying, dictations, phone calls, inventory, and supply restocking.
- Assure quality of care by adhering to compliance standards; following ASC philosophies and standards of care set by state board of licensure and other governing agency regulations.
- Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
- Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
- Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :
Medical Assistant professional in the State of Indiana.Current certification in Basic Life Support is required.COMPETENCIES :
