Job Title : Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET)
Location : 620 John Paul Jones Circle, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA 23708
Work Schedule : Monday Friday, 0600 to 1630 (8.5-hour shift including 30-minute unpaid meal break)
Qualifications :
- Education : Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or Engineering; OR Participation in a formal GEHC Biomed / FE Services Internship or Military Externship Program; OR High school diploma / GED and 4 years of experience servicing electrical, electronic, IT, or mechanical equipment.
- Experience : Minimum 2 years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician.
- License / Certification : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA or ARC).
- Other Requirements : Must be a US Citizen.
Responsibilities :
Schedule, coordinate, and manage patient appointments in accordance with clinic procedures and government guidelines.Provide repair, calibration, and preventive maintenance of biomedical and electronic equipment, including defibrillators, pumps, wound vacuums, ventilators, and other clinical devices.Respond promptly to service calls within the facility and outlying clinics.Diagnose, evaluate, and troubleshoot malfunctions on a variety of biomedical equipment and systems.Ensure compliance with NMCP, DHA, and manufacturer standards for equipment safety and performance.Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities in the facility's electronic systems (including MHS Genesis).Assist in planning and scheduling preventive maintenance, calibration, and inspection activities.Support ongoing improvement of hospital equipment management processes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence of technical issues.Provide customer support to clinical staff, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum equipment reliability.Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor consistent with NMCP policies.Follow all safety, infection control, and patient privacy regulations.Work under non -personal services arrangement, personnel shall not be subject to Government supervision or control comparable to that exercised by civilian or military employees.Prime Physicians is a physician-led, The Joint Commission (TJC) Accredited, ISO 9001 certified and CMMI Level 3 appraised organization.
