Job Description

Position Purpose :

Provides day-to-day monitoring of equipment, routine lab test, and minor maintenance activities.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities :

• Operates equipment manually and through instrument panels, computers terminals, and programmable logic controls units in an assigned area.
• Performs field test (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units or alter unit processes.
• Records observations and data in area shift log; diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action; and communicates status, changes, and abnormalities in operating areas.
• Follows process control procedures for assigned areas; verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor.
• Operates vehicles such as trucks, forklifts, loaders, carts, etc. for plant operational purposes.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background :

High School Diploma / GED required.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

• Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control.
• Must develop a working knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices of water / wastewater treatment.
• Ability to diagnose plant wide process problems and take remedial action, and to troubleshoot equipment.
• Requires good reading, math, writing, and verbal communication skills; a mechanical aptitude; and the ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training :

• Valid Driver's License and a safe driving record.
• Must obtain and maintain Rhode Island Class 1 wastewater certification within one year of appointment to Operator.
