Medical Records Specialist Responsibilities
- Ensure patient data confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Accurately collect, enter, and file birth record information using VIP systems.
- Monitor and release completed birth certificates to the State within required timelines.
- Generate and submit monthly reports to the Department of Public Health.
- Maintain productivity logs and meet established accuracy and timeliness standards.
Medical Records Specialist Qualifications
High school diploma required; associate degree in healthcare or related field preferred.13 years of experience in Health Information Management or as a birth registrar.Strong knowledge of medical terminology and experience abstracting data from records.Proficient in EPIC, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other HIM-related software.Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and interpersonal communication skills; bilingual fluency (English / Spanish / Haitian Creole) preferred.
