Summary
The Occupational Therapists plans, organizes and implements occupational therapy services in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing the facility and as may be coordinated by the Director of Rehabilitation to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is delivered.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Screens, evaluates, develops, organizes and implements patient / resident care programs through the utilization of selected occupational therapy techniques.
Applies selected muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests to assist physicians and other health personnel in determining treatment diagnosis, prognosis and patient / resident progress.
Evaluates, fits and adjusts adaptive and positional devises to assist the patient / resident in maximizing functional abilities.
Participates in conferences, consultations, Facility Care Plan meetings, as needed, and educational programs designed to improve patient / resident care and staff performance as directed by the Director of Rehabilitation.
Instructs patient / resident, family, and / or caregivers in occupational therapy recommendations to be continued upon patient / resident discharge as directed by the Director of Rehabilitation.
Consults with physicians concerning goals and treatment plans and monitors the presence of any contradictions to treatment.
Adhering to regulatory guidelines, ensures all occupational therapy documentation / treatment conforms to documentation / billing policies and procedures, and meets requirements for third party payer documentation and reimbursement.
Participates in routine quality improvement studies and monitors program evaluation indicators as directed by the Director of Rehabilitation.
Working with the Director of Rehabilitation, provides oversight and direction of the Occupational Therapy Assistants, Techs and Volunteers and assists in the supervision and education of affiliating students.
Assists in the assurance that the physical surroundings and equipment are sanitary, orderly and free from conditions that may cause safety hazards.
Demonstrates working knowledge of and compliance with the facility Compliance program, policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations.
Demonstrates compliance with the protection of patient / resident health information and company sensitive information including compliance with company policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
Shall ensure that all employees under their direct supervision receive training in and comply with the facility Compliance program, policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations.
As a supervisor, must administer appropriate disciplinary action for violations in the above in consultation with the Director of Rehabilitation and facility Administrator.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and allowed by State Practice Acts and regulation.
Other Duties
The Occupational Therapist currently supervises Occupational Therapy Assistant(s), Rehab Tech(s), and students.
Qualifications
Graduate of an AOTA accredited occupational therapy school and eligible for licensure in the state in which the program is located.
Prior experience in long-term care is preferred.
Ability to work flexible work hours to support state and federal resident care requirements.
