Groundman Transmission Position
The Groundman Transmission position is an entry level position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical transmission systems. Essential functions include working safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized transmission work, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and frequently working with energized high voltage systems. The role also involves maintaining company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order and performing all other related work as required to complete the job.
Minimum requirements include the ability to perform rigorous physical labor, understanding proper use of company radio, basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying, and the proper use and maintenance of hand tools. Candidates must also be capable of receiving and following directions, learning basic knowledge of materials used in line work, and understanding DOT requirements. Additional skills include basic rigging techniques, proper use and care of ladders, assisting in pole framing, setting, and removal, and understanding the basic concepts of grounding procedures. Candidates should also be able to safely set up a work zone, assist with structure assemble and disassembly, and possess a basic working knowledge of de-energized line work. Familiarity with induced voltage, basic bucket rescue / escape, and the ability to safely set a pole are also required. Candidates must be capable of working at heights and / or confined spaces, possess a basic knowledge of cover up, and understand minimum approach distance and flag and tag procedures. Knowledge of proper work zone set up and pole framing, setting and removal are essential, as well as the ability to properly inspect rubber goods, covers and PPE. Candidates should be able to learn to climb different types of structures and possess the necessary tools to do so, make up and use a hand line, and understand how and when to use Kellum grips. The ability to identify different types of materials used in line work, travel long distances on short notice, and work for extended periods in various locations is also required. Obtaining a Commercial Driver's License, lifting in excess of 50 lbs, working outside frequently in inclement weather, and willingness to work over-time and outside of the normal work schedule are additional requirements.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms. Work environment includes frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, and occasional exposure to extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
