Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an IMC Stepdown position requiring an active IL license, BLS, and NIHSS certification with strong telemetry and neuro stepdown skills.
Responsibilities
Work in the Intermediate Care (IMC) Stepdown unit of an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet teaching hospitalPatient population includes telemetry, neuro stepdown, cardiac, post-surgical, neuro, orthopedic trauma, plastic surgery, and renal casesShift is night, 3x12 or 4x12 hours (1845-0715), with every other weekend requiredFloating within hospital and to affiliate hospitals is requiredBlock scheduling may be discussed with managerCerner EMR is used, and Cerner experience is preferredResponsibilities include comprehensive care of stepdown patients, including managing complex cardiac, neuro, surgical, respiratory, and trauma casesMust participate in major holiday coverage, working at least 2 out of 3 major holidaysUp to 5 days of non-holiday requested time off may be approved automatically; more requires facility approvalDress code allows any solid color scrubsNo on-call requiredNo first-time travelers acceptedLocals are accepted with no radius restrictionAny permanent or PRN employee must have a 12-month separation before applying as a travelerFree parking is available with a permitSome online modules for orientation must be completed virtually on the first dayRequirements
Active IL RN license required at the time of applicationMinimum 1 year of recent IMC / Stepdown, telemetry, or neuro stepdown experience requiredCertifications required : BLS and NIHSS; ACLS preferredRequired skills include cardiac monitoring and emergency response, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response team use, post-cardiac care, feeding tube management, IV therapy, central and arterial line management, blood product administration, and wound careExperience with post-neurosurgical, trauma, ortho, plastic surgery, respiratory, and renal patients is requiredMust be able to perform respiratory management including ventilated patients, CPAP / BIPAP, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, and ABG interpretation18 months of experience required unless otherwise specified by unitBenefits
