Danbury Board of Education Complex Position Summary :
The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the Chief Financial Officer and the broader Finance and Business Office team by assisting with financial operations across the general fund, grants, and special revenue funds. This position is responsible for preparing, reconciling, and analyzing budgets and financial statements, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency in financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working across multiple funding streams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Budget and Forecasting : Support the CFO with the preparation and monitoring of the district's annual Operating, Capital and Statistical budgets and forecasts.
- Reconciliations : Perform regular reconciliations of general fund and grant-related accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Financial Analysis : Analyzing financial data, identifying trends or anomalies, and providing actionable insights to management for cost optimization and revenue enhancement.
- Prepare budget-to-actual reports and provide variance analysis to identify trends, potential issues, and areas of concern.
- Track and report grant expenditures to ensure proper allocation and compliance with grant terms and timelines for all major grants.
- Oversee the accounting for all minor grants that will be done by the Grants Coordinator.
- Maintain and update financial systems and databases to ensure timely and accurate information.
- Collaborate with department heads and program managers to provide financial insights and support informed decision-making.
- Support internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard district assets and ensure the integrity of financial records.
- Assist in special projects, financial modeling, and strategic financial planning initiatives as assigned by the CFO.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in accounting, financial analysis, or budget development, preferably in a school district setting.Must possess an 085 certification issued by the state of Connecticut.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software systems (experience with Tyler ERP Pro or similar ERP system preferred).Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.High attention to detail and accuracy; ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.Preferred Qualifications :
Experience working with state and federal grants, including reporting and compliance requirements.Knowledge of school district finance and budgeting processes.Working Conditions :
Office environment with occasional extended hours during peak budget and audit periods.Must be able to work at a computer for prolonged periods.TERMS AND CONDITIONS :
