GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The intent of this description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees on this job. Under the general direction of the Director of Telecommunications, monitors the performance of OMU's telecommunications network, performs equipment installations, configurations, recommends improvements, and ensure overall customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains telecommunications network by monitoring network performance, identifying areas for improvement, installing new equipment, making modifications, and performing upgrades as needed.
• Assist with customer installations and configurations.
• Analyzes data flow, routing performance, addressed congestion issues, and ensures appropriate data security requirements are met.
• Secures network by monitoring, control, and evaluation; establishing and testing disaster recovery policies and procedures; maintaining administrative documentation.
• Upgrades network by conferring with vendors and service providers; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
• Meets financial requirements by submitting information for capital budgeting; managing expenses.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations; obtaining certifications.
• Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
• Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
• Participate in 24 hour on call rotation.
• Perform any other related duties as required or assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Technical degree required in such disciplines as Computer Engineering, CPA, etc, plus 2 years related experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
