🏥 Labor & Delivery Unit Overview

Start Date : 11 / 17 (start dates are fixed)

Radius Rule : Must live within 100 miles

Hospital Type : Trauma Level I / II

Experience Considered : Within the last 3 years only

EMR : Epic (recent use required)

👩‍⚕️ Department Details

# of L&D Beds : 9

# of OR Suites (C-sections) : 2

# of Triage Beds : 7

Average Births : 9 / day (~250 / month, ~3,000 / year)

Ratios : AWHONN guidelines (1 : 1 or 1 : 2 common)

📋 Requirements

Certifications :

BLS

NRP

AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced

Skills / Experience :

Must be proficient and current in :

Vaginal exams

Scalp electrodes

Circulating C-sections

Newborn transition & APGARS

Postpartum hemorrhage management

IV starts, blood draws

Epidurals, amnio infusion

Assisting anesthesia

Titrating drips : Magnesium, Pitocin, Insulin, Blood

Telemetry monitoring (basic awareness)

Preferred :

Spanish speaking

Familiar with “Spinning Babies”

Water birth knowledge (not required)

👩‍🏫 Orientation

1 day hospital NEO

1 day Clinical Ed / EPIC

1 day floor orientation

🕒 Scheduling

Shift Times : 6 : 45–7 : 15 (AM / PM)

Weekends :

Nights : Fri / Sat

Days : Sat / Sun

3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks

Holidays : Must work 2 of 3 major holidays (eve / day of)

Call : Low census on-call (voluntary)

Blocked scheduling : Not allowed

RTO : Max 5 days per contract

🌙 Floating

May float to :

NICU / Peds / Women’s

MedSurg or ICU (downgraded assignments only)

Antepartum or RDU

Must be able to care for baby for 2 hours post-delivery

Scrubs : Provided (hospital-issued)

Charge Nurse : Yes, free charge

OB Techs : Yes

OB / Neonatologist : In-house 24 / 7

Respiratory Equipment : BVM (neonates), T-piece resuscitator

EFM System : CPN Centricity
