Job description

Alliance College-Ready Public Schools

Alliance College-Ready Public Schools is one of the largest and most successful nonprofit public charter school networks in the nation, operating 25 high-performing, middle and high schools that educate nearly 13,000 scholars who make up the heart of Los Angeles' Latinx, Black, and recent immigrant communities. Alliance schools have been recognized as among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, the U.S. Department of Education, and the California Department of Education. Since opening our first school in 2004, 95% of Alliance scholars have graduated from high school. We strive to uplift our scholars and their communities by fostering unparalleled educational opportunities that encourage scholarly thought, resilient learning, powerful communication, mind-body wellness, and community advocacy.

Our Principals are passionate and social justice-oriented change agents, with an underlying belief that all scholars deserve access to transformational opportunities. As an Alliance instructional and people leader, you will lead diverse culturally responsive teams that impact the lives of our scholars and communities. You will possess a deep knowledge of great teaching and instruction, and demonstrate engagement, inspiring diverse communities to increase scholar achievement. Your understanding of graduation requirements, college readiness, scholarship opportunities, and career preparedness will allow you to influence scholars' pathways to success. As a disruptive leader, you will develop and implement a school-wide plan to ensure the safety of scholars and school teams. As a people leader, you will bring teams and resources in ways that matter to scholars, staff, and families.

Alliance Principals receive substantial professional development to continue to hone their craft, including monthly full-day professional development sessions, semi-annual network-wide leadership retreats, and ongoing coaching from Instructional Superintendents. Principals receive robust support from the Alliance Home Office to enable their leadership, including support in selecting and implementing research-based, rigorous curriculum and utilizing assessment data to drive instruction, as well as back-office support (e.g., finance, operations, HR, IT, facilities).

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment and capability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment in alignment with our network's strategic direction.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess and respond to the data and dynamics of a school environment and adapt as needed.

Positive School and Community Culture

  • Maintain a safe and positive school environment in which students thrive, develop, and grow.
  • Develop a work environment to retain and develop exceptionally talented staff.
  • Foster an environment of deep collaboration with families and caregivers, building strong relationships and encouraging their direct engagement in their scholars' school experiences.
  • Partner with the Alliance Home Office to secure and allocate the resources and support necessary to maintain the school's organizational health.

The Ideal Candidates Will Have

  • A belief in and alignment with Alliance's core beliefs and educational philosophy to prepare scholars for the intellectual rigor of college and the skills required for 21st-century careers;

  • Deep belief in a growth mindset;
  • Exhibit respect and humility in all interactions;
