This position is required to work at TxDMV headquarters located in Austin, TX. State Title: Accountant III
This position performs moderately complex (journey-level) accounting in the Finance & Operations Division, Revenue Section. Work involves processing revenue transactions, reconciling agency revenues, preparing journal transactions, and reporting on outstanding accounts receivable balances. May train others. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position reports to the Revenue Manager.
Essential duties include preparing and monitoring accounts receivable billings for program areas, providing technical support to accounts receivable projects and initiatives, reconciling revenue transactions between Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS) and Centralized Accounting & Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), reviewing accounting and financial documents from multiple revenue sources for accuracy, ensuring proper documentation is received for payments, researching reconciliation discrepancies and reporting findings, assisting in making recommendations for improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the accounting system and accompanying procedures, responding to internal and external customers regarding vendor account inquiries, classifying, coding, posting, and balancing financial and accounting documents and records, reviewing and auditing daily deposits and journal vouchers for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures, assisting in sorting, endorsing and batching applications and revenue received in the cash room, assisting in recommending accounting and financial policies and procedures in accordance with statute and professionally accepted standards, and assisting with special projects and performing other job-related duties as assigned. May travel up to 5% of the time. May drive and travel to attend and represent the Department at meetings, seminars and conferences. Travel by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel. Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration, business management or a related field plus two (2) years' experience performing accounting tasks, bookkeeping, payment processing, auditing or other general office administration. Experience using the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS), Centralized Accounting & Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), or other integrated accounting system is preferred. Additional experience in accounting, audit, general office administration or related area may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
