Job description

Program Manager

Catholic Charities Boston is a leading provider of comprehensive emergency assistance and long-term economic empowerment for families and individuals. Rooted in a faith mission, we welcome people regardless of faith and circumstance. We address key issues facing our communities, providing food, shelter, resources, affordable childcare, and advocacy while creating pathways to job and housing security. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty by helping individuals and families overcome immediate crises and build sustainable futures.

The Program Manager is responsible for the management and for the successful and efficient delivery of a skills training program for nursing assistants and home health aides preparing for the state exam and a career in the health care field.

Essential Functions

  • Provide direct classroom and laboratory instruction for students as well as supervision of instruction by teaching staff.
  • Follow established curriculum and make modifications needed for students, ensuring that training adheres to DPH/DPL standards and best educational practices.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of the requirements for an individual to be eligible to become a NA/HHA under the Mass Department of Public Health regulations for NA/HHA training and communicate this information to students.
  • Ensure the tracking of daily attendance and its entry information into program database(s).
  • Assess skill level and knowledge acquisition of students on a continuing basis with observation and testing; including student proficiency in nursing assistant core skills, completing documentation of the date when the skill was demonstrated on the checklist.
  • Complete progress reports at mid and end points of training utilizing information from quizzes and the nursing assistant core skills checklist and document in the students' files.
  • Provide clinical practicum training in a long-term home care facility for students, ensuring that patients' plan of care and safety is maintained throughout the process.
  • Provide supportive assistance, advice, mentoring, and role modeling as appropriate to students and instructors.
  • Work is performed in an office, classroom and congregate care facility with the use of medical props and office technology. Standing, sitting, walking, pushing and pulling equipment are among the daily physical functions of the position.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Director and Vice President, as well as attend internal and external meetings and trainings as required.
  • Travel to nursing homes and other local locations as needed.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and exercise good decision making.
  • Hire and supervise instructors, including the completions of an annual performance appraisal.
  • Provide supplemental and make up classes as necessary.
  • Participate in screening, intake, and orientation of students in conjunction with other program staff.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A current Massachusetts Nursing License in good standing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with educational experience requirements outlined per Massachusetts state law.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in allied health training and in workforce development with target population of economically disadvantaged adults and youth.
  • Previous teaching experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with sensitivity to the needs of multicultural/multilingual students and the ability to support individual learning styles and levels.
  • Prior related experience working in a nursing facility required.
  • Strong commitment to supporting students to reach their full potential
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Strong writing and typing skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills and user experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Outlook as well as videoconferencing platforms Zoom and Teams.

Our benefits are competitive and include a 403(b) savings plan and generous time off (benefits may vary based on position and scheduled hours).

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
