Job description

Associate, Human Capital

Role: Associate, Human Capital

Team: Talent (Peak Performance Group)

Location: Boston or NYC

Reports to: Talent Team Leadership

Who We Are

At Summit Partners, our mission is to be the investment partner of choice for the very best companies and executive talent. With a history spanning four decades, Summit invests across growth sectors of the economy and has invested in more than 550 companies in technology, healthcare, and other growth industries including financial services, consumer, business services and industrial technology. These companies have completed more than 160 public equity offerings, and more than 200 have been acquired through strategic mergers and sales.

Our growth focus extends beyond the four walls of Summit; through mentorship programs and philanthropic efforts, our team members dedicate time, talent and resources to support the communities in which we work and live.

The Role

Summit Partners is seeking an Associate, Human Capital to support the Talent team in building exceptional management teams and underwriting talent decisions across the firm's Healthcare, Technology, and Growth Products & Services (GPS) practices.

This individual will partner closely with investment and portfolio teams to drive key aspects of executive search execution, talent underwriting, portfolio talent management, and market intelligence initiatives. In addition to strong execution, this role will help advance more structured, data-driven talent processes across the platform.

The Talent team operates as a centralized resource across practices, and this role will support a broad range of initiatives spanning executive hiring, talent diligence, portfolio monitoring, compensation benchmarking, network development, and firmwide talent programs.

Key Responsibilities

This is an opportunity for a high-performing individual to take on meaningful responsibility within a dynamic private equity environment, with exposure to senior leaders and critical talent decisions.

Executive Search Execution

  • Drive execution of executive searches in partnership with internal stakeholders and external search firms.
  • Maintain real-time visibility into candidate pipelines, search progress, and next steps
  • Coordinate across search firms, candidates, and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient execution
  • Prepare high-quality candidate materials and briefing documents
  • Synthesize interview feedback and help guide decision-making
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality execution across all searches

Talent Underwriting & Diligence (Pre-Investment)

  • Support pre-investment talent diligence, including research, assessment synthesis, and insight generation
  • Partner with investment teams to evaluate management teams across healthcare, technology, and growth-oriented sectors
  • Develop perspectives on leadership strength, gaps, and hiring needs pre-close
  • Prepare materials and insights for internal diligence discussions and Investment Committee review
  • Leverage network and market data to inform underwriting decisions

Portfolio Monitoring and Talent Support

  • Track and analyze CEO and senior executive performance across the portfolio, including quarterly updates and annual reviews
  • Maintain structured records of executive assessments, development priorities, and performance insights
  • Support CEO evaluation, succession planning, and talent reviews
  • Track executive team composition, changes, and gaps across portfolio companies
  • Help build a more proactive, data-driven view of leadership teams and talent needs

Network Development and Market Intelligence

  • Build and leverage Summit's network to drive talent outcomes and generate investment insight.
  • Build and maintain relationships with executives, operators, and functional leaders across healthcare, technology, and growth-oriented sectors
  • Develop pipelines for critical roles (CEO, CFO, CRO, CTO, CPO, Board, and other functional leadership positions)
  • Leverage the network to surface potential investment opportunities and generate market intelligence
  • Support investment teams by providing talent-driven insights across companies, subsectors, and themes
  • Conduct targeted research and market mapping across healthcare, software, internet, data infrastructure, and tech-enabled services ecosystems
  • Maintain visibility into high-potential leaders and emerging talent across relevant sectors

Data, Systems, and Process Infrastructure

  • Ensure high-quality data capture and maintenance across Thrive, A5, and related systems
  • Develop and maintain consistent templates for tracking, feedback, and reporting
  • Improve visibility into talent pipelines, search progress, and portfolio insights
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, data integrity, and execution speed

Cross Practice Talent Initiatives

  • Support broader Talent team priorities that create more consistency, leverage, and shared insight across practices.
  • Support compensation benchmarking across roles, companies, and sectors
  • Help maintain structured portfolio talent and compensation datasets
  • Contribute to executive network development, nurturing, and management across practices
  • Support portfolio-wide talent programs (e.g., high-potential executive initiatives)
  • Help standardize best practices, tools, and reporting across the Talent team

Profile and Qualifications

  • 2-4+ years of experience in executive search, talent, recruiting, or related environments
  • Experience within healthcare, technology, growth products & services, private equity, or related sectors is strongly preferred
  • Strong ability to build, develop, and maintain relationships with senior executives; comfortable representing the firm externally with credibility
  • Demonstrated track record of proactive networking and pipeline development across relevant sectors
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high-priority workstreams
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with ownership and drive execution in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with executive search firms or within a private equity environment is a plus
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information into clear insights
  • Comfort working with data systems and structured processes; detail-oriented with strong follow-through
